KAT KIT IS A SINGER-SONGWRITER WHO DOESN’T WANT TO BE.
She started making music through peer pressure – there was ice cream for everyone in the children’s choir, if enough kids join. Then she just stuck with it, after all, there wasn’t much more to do in the 500-strong village near Kaiserslautern. To this day, nothing better has been found, Kat is now studying pop composition at the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen. Her sound is somewhere between metaphorical dream landscapes, Regina Spektor and Studio Ghibli aesthetics. Like jazz pop, only with catchier melodies, plus picturesque lyrics with a good dose of drama and a touch of minimalism.
Kat Kit is a balancing act between intimacy and irony. A space to escape constraints and lyrically to weaken them. The spectrum ranges from WhatsApp voice message performances to majestic music about forbidden fruits. The main thing, no mainstream.
